Greetings,
I’m writing to give you an update on this upcoming year and SCCPA events. The SCCPA board spent a great deal of time this spring and summer considering the economic state of higher education and how we can best serve our constituents in the state of SC. We have made a few strategic decisions about the operations and budget management for SCCPA and the services we provide for our membership.
Our focus for the year includes a “Drive In On A Dime” workshop series. The series will kick off this fall with a gathering for graduate students on October 30, 2009 at Presbyterian College. The workshops will also include opportunities in the Spring for our professional staff at all levels. We recognize that these events will allow affordable professional development as well as opportunities to connect with colleagues across the state to share ideas and resources.
It is my desire to work with our SCCPA Publications Chair, Carrie Dupre, and SCCPA Secretary Kelly Eifert to revitalize our newsletter and enhance electronic communication with SCCPA members. You will also find that resources like our online journal the Palmetto Practitioner, can serve as key resources when travel for professional development is not an option. I encourage all of you to explore potential opportunities to submit manuscripts for the Spring Palmetto Practitioner publication.
The next SCCPA Conference will occur during the Fall 2010 term. This will be our annual multiple day conference for the 2010-2011 year. We are moving the conference to the fall term to avoid the campus calendar conflicts we’ve experienced with the Spring conference. The date change will also align our schedule with many ACPA state level organizations around the country.
The Fall 2010 Conference Chair is Amy Gamble. Amy is currently pulling together the conference committee. There are several opportunities for all professional and graduate level members to assist with this conference. I invite you to contact Amy to get involved with the conference committee.
We are also currently seeking a Director of Member Services. If you or one of your colleagues is interested in this position please contact me. This is a great position for someone that has interest in connecting with others around the state. This individual will also advise the board regarding programs and services that support our constituents.
Please know that you may contact me at anytime to discuss programs and opportunities associated with SCCPA. Remember the contact information for everyone I have mentioned in this letter is available on our website at www.sccpaweb.org. I hope you will join in attending programs, writing, and connecting with colleagues to continue making SCCPA a strong and vibrant organization in our state.
Sincerely,
Rhonda L. Mingo
